All connecting spindles, couplings and main shafts of rolling mills are protected from the sides with lattice or continuous shields or casings.

If the rolling process deviates from the specified parameters, for example, incorrect calibration or the rolls bore, different speed of the rolls then occurs non-uniformity of deformation with various manifestations: the roll bending in horizontal and vertical planes, the metal destruction, etc. The curvature of the roll ends may result in shock, equipment damage, and personal injury.
To ensure safety during the rolling process, the roll reinforcement (guiding boxes with passes, lead-outs, bars, wire tables, rulers, etc.) must be operational, designed to properly feed the roll into the rolls and exit it from the rolls. Roller reinforcement is one of the most important means of safety, as it prevents the possibility of various deviations during rolling – hit rolls on the roll collars, coiling, curvature and improper movement of the roll when leaving the rolls.
