Brinell hardness measurement scale
Brinell hardness measurement scale – is the hardness tester scale for Brinell hardness measurement. The Brinell method refers to the indentation methods. The test is carried out in the following way: first the sample (the grinding ball sample) fed to the indenter; then the indenter pressed into the sample with a smoothly increasing load for 2-8 seconds; then the load on the indenter maintained in a certain time interval (usually 10-15 seconds for steels) after reaching the maximum value; then the applied load removed, the sample withdraw from the indenter and measured the resulting imprint diameter. The 1mm; 2mm; 2,5mm; 5mm; 10mm hard alloy balls (grinding balls) used as indenters. The load size and the diameter of the ball selected depending on the examined material.
